Winners And Losers From Cannonier Vs. Imavov Card

The UFC is at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky, for tonight’s UFC Fight Night on ESPN card. In the main event, former UFC middleweight title challenger Jared Cannonier faces Nassourdine Imavov in a 185-pound contest. In the evening’s co-headlining matchup, ex-UFC light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes meets Dustin Jacoby at 205 pounds.

The main card for tonight’s UFC Louisville event begins at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN, following prelims on the same network at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Since losing to then-UFC middleweight titleholder Israel Adesanya by decision in July 2022, Cannonier (17-6) has not been very active. The 40-year-old has only stepped foot in the Octagon twice since then, but the ex-title challenger won both fights. Cannonier defeated Sean Strickland by decision in December 2022. He then scored a victory on the scorecards over Marvin Vettori in June 2023. Cannonier is the No. 4 fighter in the official UFC middleweight rankings.

Nassourdine Imavov (13-4-0-1), who is the No. 7 competitor in the UFC’s 185-pound division rankings, is coming off a win in a main event bout in February. The 29-year-old scored a majority decision victory in that contest, beating Roman Dolidze. His only loss in the past three years was a decision setback to Strickland in January 2023 in a short-notice bout that took place at light heavyweight.

Dominick Reyes (12-4) enters tonight’s UFC event on a four-fight losing skid. His first setback came in February 2020 when he fought then-UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to a close decision loss. Reyes’ most recent outing was a knockout loss to Ryan Spann in November 2022. Reyes is the No. 15 fighter in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings.

Dustin Jacoby (19-8-1) was undefeated in seven UFC fights between October 2020 and July 2022. Since then he has a 1-3 record. Jacoby’s most recent scrap was a December 2023 decision loss to Alonzo Menifield.

UFC Louisville results, winners and losers will be updated live throughout tonight’s fight card.

UFC Louisville Winners

Taylor Lapilus: Taylor Lapilus did a good job in controlling time and space to pick up a unanimous decision win over Cody Stamann.

Lapilus used the size advantage he had over his opponent well, mixing up his strikes and targets while keeping Stamann from generating any appreciable offense.

Puja Tomar: Puja Tomar became the first woman fighter from India to pick up a UFC win on Saturday when she defeated Rayanne dos Santos via split decision. The crowd did not seem to agree with the judges.

Tomar spent almost the entire fight backing up, but she did an admirable job of landing kicks on her opponent’s body.

Tomar has a lot of work to do. She needs to be better defensively and show more aggression. However, a wins a win, and Tomar got the nod in Louisville.

UFC Louisville Losers

Cody Stamann: Cody Stamann dropped to 2-5 in his past seven UFC outings with a unanimous decision setback to Taylor Lapilus on Saturday. Stamann could not use his wrestling in the first two rounds because of his opponent’s ability to shut down Stamann’s takedown attempts. Then, in the third stanza, when Stamann got a takedown, he didn’t do anything with it. It was a frustrating night for Stamann.

Rayanne dos Santos: A former Invicta FC atomweight champion, Rayanne dos Santos looked good against Puja Tomar. However, two of the judges did not think she did enough to pick up the win.

From my standpoint, Dos Santos was the more aggressive fighter and landed the bigger strikes. She pushed her opponent to the fence throughout the fight, and controlled where the bout took place. Where she could have been better was in cutting off the fighting surface. Had she trapped Tomar against the cage and unloaded combinations, Dos Santos might have picked up the win.
