Virtual Author Talk: Douglas Brunt and The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel
When the inventor of the internal combustion engine vanished from a steamship one night in
1913, headlines around the world wondered if it was an accident, suicide—or murder. NY Times bestselling author Brunt reopens the case and offers some startling conclusions. Register. Wednesday, May 1 at 3 p.m.

Evening Book Group with Author Appearance
In Soccer Grannies, Jean Duffy tells the story of the women of rural South Africa who captivated the world with their tenacity and spirit when they started a soccer team, and how Duffy and her own team brought them to America. Duffy will take part in this May’s Evening Book Group meeting. Copies of the book are available at the library. In person and via Zoom. Contact btuttle@minlib.net for the link. Great Presenters: Dr. Kim Wilson—Lessons Learned in Global Health
Kim Wilson, M.D. and M.P.H., will share best practices and stories from her work as a pediatrician with Partners in Health in East Africa and the Caribbean. She is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and a pediatrician at Boston Children’s Hospital, where she founded the Global Pediatric Fellowship. In Boston, Dr. Wilson works in primary care for an underserved community. Register. Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Virtual Author Talk: Nina Simon and Mother-Daughter Murder Night
In this lighthearted, bestselling whodunit, a high-powered businesswoman who’s recovering from cancer and her adult daughter start sleuthing when her teenage granddaughter is implicated in a murder. Debut novelist Simon has also been a NASA engineer, slam poet, game designer, museum director, and nonprofit CEO. Register. Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m.

Noon Book Group: Night Boat to Tangier by Kevin Barry
In the dark waiting room of the ferry terminal in the Spanish port of Algeciras, Maurice and Charlie, aging drug smugglers, watch for Maurice’s estranged daughter to either arrive or leave on the Tangier boat. Their conversations cause them to excavate their shared history of violence, romance, mutual betrayals, and serial exiles. Copies available at the Library. Friday, May 10.

Music Exchange Listening Room
If it’s the second Tuesday of the month, it must be Open Mic Night at the Library! Settle into a comfortable seat in our beautiful Round Room and enjoy the lightly amplified efforts of whichever brave souls have signed up to share their music. Or come a little early and sign up yourself to play two or three numbers. Co-sponsored by Arts Wayland. Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m.

Music, Story, Fun! with Ms. Janet
Join Ms. Janet for a musical storytime. She’ll bring her ukulele, rainbow bells, and puppets! We will meet in the Children’s Room. For ages birth through age 4, with caregivers. Please register. Thursdays, May 9, May 16, May 23 and May 30 at 10:30 a.m.

Baby & Toddler Storytime
This storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and rhymes, bounces, books, and body-awareness. Best for babies and toddlers, with caregiver.

Early Childhood Fair with Tom Knight’s Musical Puppets
Families with young children are invited to an Early Childhood Fair at Hannah Williams Park. Local preschools, the Wayland Library, Family ACCESS Community Connections, WCPA, and Park & Rec will host tables. There will be information for parents, and crafts and activities for kids. Yoga with Little Beats
Join Little Beats for 30 minutes of yoga-inspired movement. For ages 1-5, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Friday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m.

Outdoor Baby & Toddler Storytime with Ms. Abby
Our Baby & Toddler program moves outside! Weather permitting, we will meet outside on the green lawn. Please register. Tuesdays, May 14 and May 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Storytime with Obie the Dog
Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Obie, a beautiful Samoyed. Obie will be accompanied by his owner Helen. We will meet in the Raytheon Room. For ages 2 and up, with adult. Please register HERE. Tuesday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m.

Beginning Ballet Class for Kids
Come dance with us! Wayland High School student Eyssa Grillo will teach beginning ballet. Wear comfortable clothes. Registration required. Please register HERE. Saturday, April 27, at 11:00 a.m. For ages 4 to 6, with caregiver.

Lego Club
Children will make fabulous creations out of Legos. This month’s theme is Star Wars. For ages 5 and up, with caregivers. Please register HERE. Wednesday, May 1, at 3:00 p.m.

Art Club for Kids
Art Club is for kids in Grades 2-5 who love to draw and paint! This club, led by Wayland parent Emily Kristofek, will meet the first Monday of each month. In this session, each child will paint a snowy birch scene. For kids in grades 2 to 5. Registration required. Please register HERE. Monday, May 6, at 4:00 p.m.

Make a Mother’s Day Pop-up Card
Join us to make a colorful pop-up card for your mother, grandmother, aunt or special caregiver in your life. For ages 5 and up. Please register HERE. Wednesday, May 8, at 3:30 p.m.

Drop-in Craft: Hawaiian Leis and Grass Crowns
May is Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Join Ms. Elise to make a Hawaiian paper flower necklace and grass crowns. For ages 4 and up, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Wednesday, May 15 at 3:00 p.m.

Plant a Seed

4th/5th Grade Book Club

Teen Weaving Workshop

Middle School Chamber Music Concert
The Wayland Middle School Wind Ensemble is a chamber group of 6th through 8th grade brass and woodwind musicians. They will be performing works by Brian Balmages, Adam Gorb, Antonio Vivaldi, Tielman Susato, and more! The concert will be held in the Raytheon Room. Wednesday, May 1, at 6:00 p.m.
